Info for Southern California area Veterans

There are several facilities in So California for Veterans. Southern California and Southern Nevada Veterans are served by the VA Desert Pacific Healthcare Network which serves approximately 1.4 million Veterans.  There are 5 Hospitals and 29 clinics in the Desert Pacific Healthcare Network.

VA Hospital in Loma Linda CA

 VA Hospitals are located in:

          Los Angeles

          Long Beach

          San Diego

          Loma Linda

          Las Vegas

About a month ago I was in a focus Group of Women Veterans at Loma Linda to discuss issues related to Women Veterans and the care they received.  Loma Linda will be moving the Women's Unit to the old Kaiser Building and offer all women Veterans one stop Health Services.  This will be in the near future.

Another tidbit of information is the Suicide Hotline.  Veterans have unique problems and sometimes they feel overwhelmed and suicidal thoughts and ideas overcome them.  The Vet Centers and VA Medical Centers are offering help with the Suicide Hotline for Veterans.  When you call just tell the person that you are a Veteran and they will connect you to the VA Suicide Prevention Program.

***The Suicide Hotline for Veterans Number is 1-800-273-8255***

Special Offer for Veterans:

Many people are stressed right now, and it is a proven fact that exercise helps with stress.  The Desert Pacific Healthcare Network has contracted with the 24 Hour Fitness Clubs to provide Veterans a corporate discount for Membership.  The discounted rate is currently $19.99 for a 1 Club (check with the club you are interested in by clicking the link above).  You must use this code 100825.

Note: I called one of the clubs and it is very important to check because right now, today, the special they are running for their all clubs (can go to any one of their over 400 facilities) is cheaper than the Veterans Special.  So always check!

Here's what else I found out:

  1. The 19.99 is for 1 Club Membership only
  2. You will need to pay the current month + last month in advance
  3. Monthly Deductions from your Credit Card

Not all clubs have a pool or Jacuzzi...if it says the club is "ACTIVE" that probably means they don't have one.  Call the club near you to ask about what you want.

Newly Discharged Veterans are encouraged to check with the VA to see about eligibility for programs and health care.  The current Government is making an effort to meet the needs of all those that have served our Country so make sure you know what benefits you are qualified for.

**If you need anyone to help you with your Real Estate needs, I am also a Licensed Real Estate Agent working in Riverside County.  You can contact me by email (see sidebar for email link) or phone.  I can also hook you up with a VA Lender.

Great info. I was so happy to hear the President say to the troops today that it is time for us, those they serve, to pay back with more healthcare benefits and more locations for them to have more convenient access to health care after discharge from the service.

Hi Kathy a very usefl pos and a great community outreach.

While saying that, the thought that went through my head was back as kid growing up, Verterns could go the movies for a quarter. Back then I thought how lucky they were, imagine, 25 cents. Well over the years ,  realized that it was the rest of us that were lucky for the sacrifices that they made for all of us. The way I look at today, they should pay the active veteran just to show up. Funny thing, the movies. You would think all the big talkers in Hollywood who make fortunes on each of their movies, should be having active veterans attend for no more than a buck. Now that would be sending a much better message than all their cheap rhetoric and the too high prices for most veterans to be able to afford to go very often.

Gary- thanks :)

Ann- Yes, I too was happy to hear that.  There are a few things this President has done for Veterans, and all I can think of is "It's about time!"Do you know if Tammy Duckworth got the Postition in the VA?  Now that is one heck of a story!

William-During and after WW11 we treated Veterans with respect.  Something as easy as what you say wouldn't cost that much in the long run, but the good will benefit would be phenomenal.  Thanks for sharing that, I didn't know about the movie discount, and love tidbits of info like that :)

I'm going to check on the fitness center...we have one right in our shopping center and I think that's a great idea.....Schofield Barracks (10 minutes from our office) has a giant gym though.

Hi Kathy - our veterans deserve so much more than they've gotten, at least than most seem to have gotten.  They do so much for every single one of us, they are each and every one a hero in my book.  I hope those who need the info you wrote about take advantage of the services you've described here.

Kathy there are a lot of services that Vet's can take advantage of and it just a matter of knowing what they are and how to take advantage of them.  Good job in getting out the word.

Hi Kathy,

Great info for any Veteran or family member. I would imagine your focus group at Loma Linda must have been very interesting to say the least.

Thank you so much for doing this, at times it seems like some of our Vets get a little short-changed. I'm a huge supporter of our veterans of all ages!

I called Kathy re: her Veteran's article and talked for over a half hour! She was so genuinely caring about my father's situation and is helping me to advocate for him. Kathy is a RARE BREED! She's led a very active life, filled with seemingly insurmountable challenges, yet still possesses a vivacious and positive attitude! She's much more than a real estate broker, she's a compassionate, generous human being. Thank you, Kathy... not just for the support and valuable info, but for the attitude recharge! You help me believe in the GOOD of Humanity! Blessings! :-)

And that's the kind of person you are Kathy. It makes the difference in our industry to have compassion, caring and positive attitude. It's what set us apart from the others :)

Kerrie- It was my pleasure.....and I will be sending you an email when I get that info we talked about.  We all need "Recharging" at times...and am glad that you found me through Localism :)  Thank you for the kind words .......

Sally- Ah soul sister...so true about compassion, caring and Positive Attitudes :)  Just because we sell Real Estate as our Profession doesn't mean we have to limit our help to just Listing and Selling Homes. Helping people however we can is what it's all about :)
